The discovery base of Signe BioPharma Inc was made by Dr. David A.
Sirbasku ("Dr.Sirbasku") during his tenure at The University of Texas
Health Science Center at Houston, Texas. Dr. Sirbasku was one of the
founding faculty members of The University of Texas Medical School at
Houston. He served there for thirty years as a Professor of
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. In recognition of his research, he
was awarded a 5 year Faculty Research Award by the American Cancer
Society.
He was a Member and Chairman of grant review committees for the American Cancer Society, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Army Breast Cancer Research Program. He was honored by appointment to the United States National Board of Medical Examiners (USMLE). Dr. Sirbasku is editor of several book series, including a best-known series on serum-free cell culture, and is coauthor of 148 scientific publications. He has worked on the problem of hormone dependent cancer growth since 1970, and discovered that polypeptide growth factors were involved in steroid hormone dependent cancer growth. This earlier work led to national and international recognition including invitations to speak at U.S., European and Asian scientific conferences. This work, plus his discovery of the role of the secretory immune system in mucosal cancer, is the fundamental scientific basis of Signe's intellectual property portfolio and product development plans. Donna M. Sirbasku, M.D., is Co-Founder of Signe BioPharma Inc, and Chief Medical Officer. She received her M.D. from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and did residency training at Boston University and the University of California at San Diego. Dr. Sirbasku has 30 years of experience as a pathologist at the Houston VA Medical Center, where she was Physician-in-Charge of Surgical Pathology and Autopsy Pathology. Dr. Sirbasku was also a faculty member at Baylor College of Medicine. She is Board Certified in Clinical and Anatomic Pathology and was recently re-certified by the American Board of Pathology. Dr. Sirbasku is licensed to practice medicine in Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana and California. Dr. Sirbasku recently served as Associate Director of Anatomic Pathology at Quest Laboratories in Dallas, Texas. She is currently President of DMS Pathology, P.A., Flower Mound, Texas. Dr. Donna M. Sirbasku also is Director of the Personalized Medicine Program at Signe BioPharma Inc.
