Founders

The discovery base of Signe BioPharma Inc was made by Dr. David A. Sirbasku ("Dr.Sirbasku") during his tenure at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Texas. Dr. Sirbasku was one of the founding faculty members of The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He served there for thirty years as a Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. In recognition of his research, he was awarded a 5 year Faculty Research Award by the American Cancer Society.

He was a Member and Chairman of grant review committees for the American Cancer Society, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Army Breast Cancer Research Program. He was honored by appointment to the United States National Board of Medical Examiners (USMLE). Dr. Sirbasku is editor of several book series, including a best-known series on serum-free cell culture, and is coauthor of 148 scientific publications. He has worked on the problem of hormone dependent cancer growth since 1970, and discovered that polypeptide growth factors were involved in steroid hormone dependent cancer growth. This earlier work led to national and international recognition including invitations to speak at U.S., European and Asian scientific conferences. This work, plus his discovery of the role of the secretory immune system in mucosal cancer, is the fundamental scientific basis of Signe's intellectual property portfolio and product development plans.
